Exquisite Stitches worked in Silk

Laid Triangle

This stitch looks best when the fiber is corded and twisted. Used for the model was Rose silk pearl #5 to show the stitch well, and 100% hand dyed silk unevenweave 30/36 fabric in Mulberry.

First
Start by coming up where you want the point of the triangle. Then come up as shown, making sure that you are directly below the point. Pick up only 2 or 3 threads for a closely packed triangle.

Second
In the same row, pick up one or two threads again. Pass the silk under the needle when you pull through. Keeping your finger over the silk pearl as you're pulling helps control any kinking. T hough I've picked up 4 threads to show you the steps, what's important is that you pick up the same number of threads each time, and that you stay in the same row of threads.

Third
Repeating step one. Stay to the outside of the previous stitches and make sure that you pass the silk under the needle each time.

Fourth>
Finished, this triangle is small and packed fairly closely. Finish by passing the silk underneath and running it under a few stitches.
