Questions about
anything? This is the place to get answers.
Q
Do you guarantee your products
or services? A
Sure. I guarantee
that the fibers are 100% silk, unless I tell you otherwise in the description. I guarantee
yardage as stated.
If you get your fibers and are really unhappy, write me. If I can't make it better I'll
refund your purchase price, no questions asked, when you return the fibers (with
delivery confirmation) to me, in the same condition you received them in.
Q
What if I don't want to give my
credit card over the Internet?
A
You don't have to.
When you get to the shopping cart check out you can chose to pay by credit card, PayPal, or
check/money order.
If you want to pay by PayPal, check PayPal as your payment option. You'll be taken right to the PayPal web site and will be able to pay instantly.
If you want to pay by credit card and enter your credit card number onto the secure web site, just check credit card and continue.
If you want to pay by credit card, but don't want put your numbers on line,
write in the Comments section if you will be faxing or phoning your credit card number.
Then you can fax or phone to my answering machine (numbers below) the credit card number
(don't forget the expiration date!).
Q
What about
shipping and tax?
A
I charge a flat rate shipping of $1 for all US and Canada orders, and $3 for all international orders.
I collect NY sales tax.
I ship all orders within 5 days. If it's going to take more than 5 days, I'll email
you and let you know. So it's important that you put your email address on your order.
Q
How are the
scans? A
For color they're
very good. The scanner is a high end scanner, and when I make a scan I pick a skein out of
the bag to scan it. Nothing special - just any one I grab so what you see is what you get.
Check your monitor - go to the Silk Chenille page and click on the bright red and the
yellow scans. They're a very bright red, and a good strong yellow.
The biggest feedback I get about the scans is that the colors and silks are much more
vibrant and luxurious than shown. This is because silk is very hard to scan - it reflects
much of the light giving a flat look to a really high sheen fiber.
The ribbon scans the very worst - it looks flat no matter what I do, but it is a pure silk
ribbon with good drape. The silk chenille scans the best - it really does feel like it
looks and sometimes people buy it just to pet it.
Q
How do you
open the skeins?
A
They aren't as tricky as they look. They start life as a circular skein,
with the two ends tied together, and then folded twice before the tag is
stapled over it. Hold one end of the tag in each hand. Pull them apart
and carefully find the knot. Hold the knot tightly in one hand and open up the
skein with your other hand. Now treat it as you would any other skein of silk.
Some users hold the skein open with their two feet and wind it, while some
prefer to use another person. The skein also fits around the top of your
regular bobbin box.
Q
What about
colorfastness?
A
My fibers are hand
dyed by me and are as colorfast as humans and chemistry can make them.
I work hard at setting them till they rinse clear - but you absolutely have to do your
part.
Keep your stitching the cleanest that you can. IF you have to wash your silk for
some reason,
DON'T use hot water or harsh soaps to clean your precious works. Don't even think about
bleach. Orvus is recommended as a mild soap for washing hand dyed fibers, in cool water
and using gentle movement.
A little tip that works for any fiber, not just my hand dyeds - wet the fiber and rub it
against a white cloth. If there isn't any color rub off then you should be able to safely
wash it using these instructions.
Q
Do you do
special orders?
A
Sometimes.
It's become increasingly more expensive to do this so I'm taking it on a case by
case basis, depending on the color. I may ask for a skein commitment or tell
you I can't do it till I redye that color, and ask if you want to be on a waiting
list. Or I may ask for a flat amount on top of the fiber cost to cover the dye cost.
Q
Do you do
wholesale?
A
To designers, kitters and teachers, and for
trunk shows on a case by case basis. Contact me for more information.
